I'm so thrilled to announce a commission from Amaranth, a new "lady-power string quartet" made up of my friends and colleagues here in San Francisco.
One of the things I love about Amaranth is their interesting approach to programming. My work, along with other new pieces by local composers, will be interspersed between movements of Mozart's "dissonance" quartet (No. 19, K. 465).

Paul Barnes loved performing my Piano Thoughts, Vol. 1 so much last October, he commissioned me for more! My second set of short piano pieces (Piano Thoughts, Vol. 2) will be premiered by Paul at Symphony Space in NYC this coming April. I'm so excited to be working with an artist of such calibre and renown, who regularly champions young composers!
Lucas Floyd is a young American composer based in San Francisco. Listen to and watch performances of his music, preview and purchase scores, see upcoming events, and contact him here!
“Lucas Floyd’s . . . understated quality belies an assured technique and confident voice.
”
“Floyd is one of the new composers capable of finding new veins to mine in that ‘mother lode’ of the ‘basics.’”
“His music, very ambitious in its scope, variety, and forces required, is at once greatly enjoyed by audiences and respected by his peers.”
“Lucas’ music is fluid, finely crafted, and thought-provoking, and beyond this, it veritably ‘gushes’ out of him”
