Fantasy-March

About:  Fantasy-March was written in the Fall of 2012 for the San Francisco Conservatory of Music’s New Music Ensemble. A muted horn sings the opening melody, then passes it to the woodwinds. The strings then take it, as the winds and percussion give hints of the march to come. As solo violin grows further agitated, the harp and strings also begin to froth. This gives way to a march, with the clarino clarinet and xylophone almost mocking the theme. The march morphs into an ironic dance, before returning to the slow fantasy in its full power. As the energy dies away, we hear the horn echoing the beginning.
