About:  This piece was written for Yoon (“Sarah”) Jong and Sarah McGrath, two cellist friends. The music honors the memory of Yoon’s mother (her nickname was Omma), who battled with cancer for many years. Omma loved cello music, and after she passed away in 2011, Yoon and Sarah asked me to write a piece for two cellos, to honor her love for music. The result is this collection of six duets; each movement’s title comes from a word or phrase that stood out when Yoon told me Omma’s story.

Premiere:  Matthew Linaman and Andres Vera, on April 26th, 2013 at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music's Sol Joseph Recital Hall, San Francisco, CA.

Instrumentation:  2 cellos

Duration:  ca. 18 minutes
